Eddie Joyce says he has sent pictures where landslides have occurred and large rocks have landed in the road having to be removed by the Department of Transportation.

Although funding has been announced to replace decades old gabion baskets on Route 450, the MHA for the Bay of Islands is worried the work won’t get done this year. Eddie Joyce says he has sent pictures where landslides have occurred and large rocks have landed in the road having to be removed by the Department of Transportation. He says this has been an issue for years and someone is going to get hurt. Joyce has sent pictures to the department, the money is allocated, but they’re waiting to do a design on the gabion baskets. He says this is a shameful stall tactic and the Premier is playing politics with safety. Joyce says funding for brush cutting has also been announced but hasn’t been tendered yet.
