For decades, the Corner Brook Fire Fighters Toy Drive has put smiles on the faces of children with presents under the tree to help families in need. Gord Hamlyn was a firefighter for 45 years and a big part of his entire career was the Toy Drive. Today, at Fox’s General Store in Curling, all proceeds from the sales of ice cream will go to the Toy Drive as part of their annual Gord Hamlyn Day. Mayor Linda Chaisson says buying an ice cream today in his memory is something we all want to do.
Fox’s owner Michelle Payne says this will be the third Gord Hamlyn Day and firefighters are always there helping out. She says it’s always a fun day and a great way to keep his passion and memory alive.
The Corner Brook Fire Fighters Toy Drive in partnership with the Salvation Army has helped provide presents for hundreds of children each year in the city and throughout the Bay of Islands. Gord Hamlyn passed away in 2024 at the age of 66.
