A rare bird is trying to be protected.
The town of Irishtown-Summerside will be creating a new habitat and wetlands conservation area. Deputy Mayor Peter Parsons says it’s with the Stewardship Association of Municipalities. He says the goal is to protect a rare bird, known as the Rusty Blackbird. Deputy Mayor Parsons says there will be a buffer zone around the area.

Western Regional Waste Management recommends taping the ends of batteries to be recycled
Outreach Coordinator Lynn Howse says most of the batteries they are getting are from cell phones and the ends should be covered with tape before recycling at a transfer station, where they will be kept in fire safe bins.
Gingerbread House at Valley Mall has delivered over 107,000 gifts for children since starting in 1982
Last year, 353 toy hampers were handed out to people in the Corner Brook and Bay of Islands area and all gifts donated at the Gingerbread House stay in the community.
