Any claim would consider the road’s pre-existing condition and cover only the repairs required to restore it to that state.
Last week, the MHA for the Bay of Islands and the Mayor of Lark Harbour spoke about concerns over trucking heavy loads out of an area known as Cedar Cove. Both Eddie Joyce and Wade Park were referring to the removal of the grounded MSC Baltic III. Joyce has heard starting July 1st, 500 trucks will be hauling salvage over Route 450 and on to Stephenville. Park spoke about other major projects on the go, the fishing season, the upcoming tourism season, and the extra traffic as a result. Bayfm News reached out to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure for a comment. It stated, “ the department is preparing a tender for work on Route 450; details and timelines are not yet available.” As well, “In cases where road damage results from negligence, such as the use of overweight trucks or improperly secured loads, insurance claims may apply. Any claim would consider the road’s pre-existing condition and cover only the repairs required to restore it to that state.” Meanwhile, more than $250 million has been committed to highway construction under the 2026–27 Provincial Roads Plan.
