About 40 litres of home heating oil was spilled after a truck overturned on Curling Street last week. On Tuesday, January 20th, around 3 p.m., the RNC announced a closure from Sheppard Avenue to Lewin Parkway and it remained closed until 2:30 the next morning. There were no injuries. A statement from the provincial government reads, “The role of the Department of Government Services is to identify the polluter and advise them of their responsibilities under the Environmental Protection Act to clean up and remediate the impacted area. An estimated 40 litres of home heating oil was spilled and the polluter, Western Petroleum, acted quickly, and the spill was contained and cleaned up in a timely fashion. Environmental Protection Officers with the Department of Government Services are continuing to monitor the situation and will respond accordingly should any future issues arise.”
