Government is doubling the tax credit for volunteer firefighters and search and rescue personnel

    ACOA and Rural Economic Minister Gudie Hutchings says the volunteer firefighter tax credit and the search and rescue tax credit is being doubled, to $6000.

    ACOA and Rural Economic Minister Gudie Hutchings has announced some good news for volunteer firefighters, and search and rescue groups. She says the volunteer firefighter tax credit and the search and rescue tax credit is being doubled, to $6000. Hutchings says there are 86 volunteer fire departments in NL. She says last year, eight Canadian firefighters lost their lives in the worst forest fire season yet. Hutchings says this tax credit could mean a savings of $900-$1000 a year for volunteer firefighters and searchers.
