Cyber attack info kept from public

Government says it took a reasonable approach when informing the public of the cyber attack on healthcare information. Justice Minister John Hogan was confronted by reporters in a media scrum late yesterday afternoon. This after the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) released an Investigation Report into the 2021 cyberattack. It said “the information that was taken was highly sensitive and deserved the highest degree of protection, an attack like this was foreseeable, and the health authorities did not have adequate cyber security in place.” Minister Hogan told reporters government was acting on advice as to when to release information. He says they acted under  legal advice when they didn’t release there was a ransom demand. The Minister says there’s no proof any of the information was misused. Since the attack, added security measures have been put in place. The report highlights 6 recommendations.
