Corner Brook’s 52nd annual Winter carnival comes alive at the lighting of the torch and raising of the flag early this evening at city hall. It gets underway at 6 o'clock followed by the torch light people parade to the park for opening ceremonies in the park at 7. Chair Donna Luther says tonight’s event is free and comes with food and fireworks. There’s also a chance for some kid to win Leif’s Treasure Chest with some amazing prizes.
Bill Griffin tells Bayfm’s Lenny Benoit, he is a board member but this year, decided to take on the role as chair of a committee so he chose buttons. Griffin says there are 5,000 winter carnival buttons available at various businesses. Button buyers qualify for a prize draw will take place during the closing ceremonies.
