The RCMP already serves over half of the NL’s population across roughly 80 per cent of its landmass.

The National Police Federation (NPF) is pleased to hear 25 RCMP officers will be hired here after last week’s provincial budget. NPF local Board Director Jake Foran ( like foreign) says they represent ~20,000 RCMP Members. The RCMP already serves over half of the NL’s population across roughly 80 per cent of its landmass. With a 12 per cent increase in calls for service and a sharp rise in mental health-related calls in recent years, Foran says adding more mounties and the budget announcement of expanding mobile mental health crisis teams will make a real difference. Meanwhile, more than 20,500 people applied with the RCMP last year.
