Lynx prefer forest habitat and typically avoid humans. Sightings of lynx near populated areas may be due to lynx foraging for snowshoe hare. While typically forest-dwelling, lynx will often seek prey along forest edges and occasionally travel in open areas near or within towns to reach other forested habitat.
Sightings of wildlife in and around populated areas should be reported to the nearest Forest Management District Office.
