Five outstanding students from the west coast have won the 2026 WorkplaceNL student safety video/radio ad contest. It was open to grades 7-12 and the winners get $1,000 as well as a plaque for their school. Lucas Miles of Bayview Academy, St. George’s is the winner of the radio ad category for “The Safety Rap.”
Winners of the video category are Mia Kelly, Leah Kelly, Mylie Cassell and Meredith Lush, students at Elwood Regional High School, Deer Lake. Their entry, The Importance of Speaking Up, showcases workers’ rights and employers’ responsibility. The Elwood team’s video was sent as NL’s submission in the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety’s (CCOHS) national contest.
