The report is titled, “Snow Crab Food Safety and Quality: A Discussion of Issues Related to Provincial Regulation.

Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne says a recent report on snow crab food quality was meant to return people to a baseline of information and appreciation of the necessity and value of assuring good quality crab from the harvesters to retailers.  He says this appears to have been forgotten by some of the processors who basically said dead crab is still good crab. The report is titled, “Snow Crab Food Safety and Quality: A Discussion of Issues Related to Provincial Regulation. It found that careful product handling and stowage prior to processing is critical.” Byrne says 30 years of experience in this industry should have been a lesson for us all. He says by protecting quality in the industry it’s meant an additional 100 million for them.  The report was authored by Brian Delaney of Economic and Social Research Consulting.
