Gerry Byrne says this show brings representatives from 167 fish buying nations from all over the world and to be absent is to be absent from the world marketplace.
Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture Minister Gerry Byrne and a delegation of fishery representatives will meet with key buyers in Boston to confront trade realities and secure strong markets. They are attending the Seafood Expo North America, which takes place March 16-18 in Boston, Massachusetts. Byrne says it is important to be at this show even in the midst of U.S. imposed tariffs. He says this show brings representatives from 167 fish buying nations from all over the world and to be absent is to be absent from the world marketplace. Byrne says they plan to meet with buyers in the U.S to get a message through to the Trump administration; they need to take a stand and tell the president to stop hurting American jobs and the economy, stop being a bully and stop with these ridiculous tariffs. Last year, about 65 percent of Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood was exported to the United States, valued at $890 million.
