Violating a fire ban can result in minimum penalties of $50,000.
The whole province is under a fire ban until July 17th. This is due to higher Fire Weather Index ratings and wildfires burning in Labrador. Permits to burn grass, brush or other materials are cancelled and fireworks and sky lanterns are banned. Gas or propane-fueled units such as barbecues may be used during a fire ban as well as enclosed smoker units. Violating a fire ban can result in minimum penalties of $50,000.
