ACOA and Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings says $473K in funding will help market the whole area, including businesses.
Federal Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Phillipe Champagne was in Corner Brook yesterday for the announcement of just over $473K for Cruise NL. The purpose of the funding is to support international marketing to grow the cruise sector here, as well as build capacity and readiness to attract and receive yacht and international cruise lines. The Minister was due to fly out of Deer Lake this morning, but was “snowed in.” He says cruise ships bring a lot of people here, about 40,000 in this area last year, and tourism is one of the largest industries in Canada. ACOA and Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings says this funding will help market the whole area, including businesses. Both Ministers dropped into Bayfm this morning for a chat with Lenny Benoit. Hutchings says proposed tax cuts are due to come in effect in just over a week. She says government knows these are hard times for people and this will continue until the end of February. Champagne says whenever a tax break can be given it’s a good thing and they wanted to make this a simple measure. Another part of the Working Canadians rebate is a one-time cost-of-living payment of $250 to eligible individuals.
