Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne is calling on the feds to do something about the high cost of Marine Atlantic.
On June 1st, the cost will rise another 4 percent. Byrne says an additional surcharge means everyone will pay the price. He says the federal government has protected PEI because of inflation, creating two standards of treatment. Minister Byrne says the cost for a return trip on the ferry is $500 for a family of four, while it’s only $50 for PEI. He says every time Marine Atlantic raises prices, people lose jobs.
