Eight kids from Corner Brook will be teeing up tomorrow as Team Canada at a tournament taking place at Humber Valley Resort. It’s run by an ex PGA tour player, Ernie Els, and is called “the Els for Autism International Golf Tournament.” Wayne Allen has been golfing at the resort for the past 23 years. He says they coach programs at Humber Valley Resort for various ages and abilities, with one of their special groups being the Autism Society and they’ve been practising really hard.
Allen says they’re not focused on abilities but these kids, ages 9-13, have developed through training. He says it’s amazing to see them improve and it’s one of the most rewarding things they do as junior coaches. The event is sponsored by Golf Canada, Adidas & First Tee.
