Drive Electric NL is revving up to educate rural municipalities and tourism organizations throughout the province on the benefits and challenges of an electric vehicle. Yesterday, the company received over $260,000 from the federal and provincial governments to roll out information and demo sessions. Co-founder Jon Seary says the money will also be used to educate rural municipalities and tourism organizations throughout the province on the benefits and challenges of EV adoption and how to implement green vehicle programs in their communities, “We will be bringing the first hand owner experience to people who are still wondering if this is the right vehicle for them,” he says. “Also, talking to municipalities to start using electric vehicles in their fleets.” Seary says he’s been driving an electric vehicle for the past 7 years. He says it’s easy to install a personal charging station but for longer trips, there are 35 charging stations throughout the province.
