Deer Lake is under a flood watch due to high water levels in the Humber River. Mayor Dean Ball says water will be released through Junction Brook and into the upper Humber River. He says it’s necessary and the town’s priority is to caution those living around the river and lake that water levels will rise.
Ball says there is still a lot of snow in the Grand Lake area and with warmer temperatures expected starting tomorrow, that will speed snow melt adding to water levels at Deer Lake. He says the hope is only one gate will be opened but it’s all dependent on the weather.
Ball says residents need to stay away from riverbanks and be ready to leave their homes. He says this is not to cause panic for people but those living in low lying areas need to be prepared for a potential flood.
Pasadena and Steady Brook are also advising residents to use caution and keep an eye on their properties due to high water levels in the Humber River.
