The Mayor of Deer Lake is thanking all those involved with Saturday’s fire that destroyed a historic landmark known as the Driftwood Inn. The blaze broke out around 7 a.m. All those at the inn managed to get out safely and RCMP evacuated nearby residents. To the first responders who answered the call without hesitation, your bravery and commitment shine brightly. The unwavering dedication of the Deer Lake Fire Rescue volunteer fire department, alongside the teams from Cormack, Reidville, and Pasadena, exemplifies the strength of a collective spirit. They all came together in a time of crisis, showing remarkable courage and teamwork. As well, local businesses, clergy members, municipal enforcement officers, the RCMP, town staff, and volunteers stepped up to assist those affected. "
