Up to last year, the Islaview Foundation has raised $700K.

Tomorrow marks the tenth year that the town of Deer Lake changes its name to Islaview in memory of a tiny superhero, named Isla Short. Her uncle Dan Bursey joined Bayfm’s Lenny Benoit this morning to talk about the work of the Islaview Foundation, last year marking $700K raised to help families in crisis with a child in treatment for a medical illness.

Bursey spoke about how the Islaview Foundation started. When Isla was in the Janeway, he wrote a poem called, “This town called Islaview” for her parents and it evolved into what it is today.
Bursey says Islaview aka Deer Lake will be a busy spot tomorrow and every business in the town helps out or donates. Some events for Islaview Day include community breakfasts, swimming, bowling, a market, a candlelight vigil on the beach and more.
