A cuddle bed is a single patient bed that can open up into a double, so palliative care patients can sleep with loved ones during their final hours.
For five years now a couple of families have been raising funds to buy cuddle beds at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. A cuddle bed is a single patient bed that can open up into a double, so palliative care patients can sleep with loved ones during their final hours. Lillian Strowbridge told Bayfm’s Terry Boland, so far they’ve raised enough funds to purchase four beds. In 2020, her sister, Linda Strowbridge-Langer spent five and a half weeks in a cuddle bed with her husband, Robert. Strowbridge says her parents were married for 73 years and her mother got to spend the last night in a cuddle bed with her father.
On May 16th, the group will do the draw for their latest fundraiser which involved ticket sales on a brand new electric bike, a cell booster and a print by E.J.Wareham and 2000 tickets were sold. Strowbridge says they’re not finished yet and the next goal is to buy four cuddle beds and raise $100,000. The Strowbridge-Langer families have been holding ticket sales, spins, auctions, dances, bingos and much more to raise the necessary funds. Stay tuned to hear their next big project in August.
