NL Summer Games kicks off in Corner Brook with high energy, spirit, and new friendships

    The second half of the Games will take place in Stephenville. 

    1400 young athletes are competing in an array of sports at the NL Summer Games underway in Corner Brook. Opening ceremonies kicked things off Saturday night at the Civic Centre. Tourism Minister Andrea Barbour is also the Minister of Sport, Recreation and Parks. On Bayfm this morning, she spoke about the energy of the games and said it is an honour to be here. 

    St.George’s-Humber MHA Hal Cormier spoke about the true spirit of sport, which he witnessed yesterday during a ball hockey game. He says the goalie for team NL Indigenous was injured during the time lapse, the team from Mt. Pearl joined them by playing with a soccer ball. 

    Minister of Social Supports and Well Being, Joedy Wall, talked about a young athlete from Labrador who was helped  on the golf course yesterday. He says a member from Western showed them how to play the sand. The second half of the Games will take place in Stephenville.
