An application by Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. to harvest wood and construct a road in the city’s watershed area has been voted down by council. The company had proposed harvesting approximately 330 hectares of forest and building 2.75 kms of road in the protected water supply area zone. At last night’s council meeting, Councillor Pamela Gill was the first to vote against it saying all harvesting in that area should stop. Deputy Mayor Linda Chaisson says the city received 114 pieces of correspondence after issuing a public notice about the proposal. Councillor Vaughn Granter also voted against it saying more time is needed to look at this proposal. Councillor Charles Pender says this area is the only source of water for Corner Brook, Massey Drive and Mount Moriah. The area is in the vicinity of Corner Brook Lake.
