Nurse practitioners will be the primary care provider for upwards of 800 patients and the launch of the pilot is expected in the coming months.
Nurse Practitioners in this province will be paid a salary and be considered independent contractors as part of a new funding pilot project that will boost access to health care. Furthermore, patients will no longer be required to pay for that service and these professionals will be associated with one of the 21 family care teams that are currently open. There are 351 nurse practitioners licensed here and Health Minister Krista Lynn Howell expects 20 of them will take part in the pilot. Nurse Practitioners and opposition have been asking for this for some time and Howell says it did take some time and was something you could not formulate on a whim, Nurse practitioners will be the primary care provider for upwards of 800 patients and the launch of the pilot is expected in the coming months.
