Over 380 cms of snow has fallen on Corner Brook so far this winter. This is more than totals from five of the previous six years and the lowest rainfall levels in the past six years, meaning slower melting and more buildup. At this week’s public meeting, Councilor Donna Wheeler spoke about how the demands of winter weather have placed additional pressure on the City’s snowclearing budget.
Wheeler says fluctuating temperatures in late February and early March led to an increase in potholes.
Asphalt repairs have been underway using the City’s asphalt reclaimer when weather conditions permit. To date, the City has received 79 pothole reports from residents, and staff continue to address.)
Meanwhile, crews have completed five full rounds of hydrant snow clearing, with the sixth round underway. Each round includes clearing 746 hydrants, providing access for firefighters
At this week’s public meeting, Councillor Donna Wheeler says consumption is down close to 2 million litres over last year’s numbers and last month was a record.
The city’s share is $3.6M and the project includes a new water storage tank, water pumping station and expansion of the distribution system that can handle another 300 new homes.
