In a social media post this week, Parsons highlighted Grenfell’s recent 50th anniversary, and that it currently has over 1200 students, 100 teaching faculty, as well as over 200 courses each semester in 22 programs.
Corner Brook MHA Jim Parsons says restructuring changes will not affect Grenfell’s place in Memorial University’s structure system. In a social media post this week, Parsons highlighted Grenfell’s recent 50th anniversary, and that it currently has over 1200 students, 100 teaching faculty, as well as over 200 courses each semester in 22 programs. Parsons says he has concerns about some recent comments and worries when he hears people talk in the media that we are scraping away students and creating a panic where it is not needed.
In an interview with Bayfm News last week, Grenfell Student Union President Tyson Jesso is worried about the campus and how this will impact students. He says they regularly meet with the VP on Grenfell campus, who is available whenever needed, and says this cut will make students feel more disconnected from their institution. However, Parsons disagrees, saying Grenfell is a small but successful part of the Memorial system and it has a lot of potential. He says Grenfell employs almost 300 people and contributes $30M directly to the economy of Corner Brook and western Newfoundland.
