Byrne says $80 million dollars is up for grabs for 922 new housing units in just about every community in the province.
Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says the city only received approval for 6 units from only one proponent during government’s recent call for proposals to construct affordable housing. He says $80 million dollars is up for grabs for 922 new housing units in just about every community in the province. Byrne says the program works if proponents have land ready for the development. He says Deer Lake and Stephenville are getting 20 units each. Byrne says he would like to meet with developers to find out what the issues are. He says he’s hearing there are issues with getting permits in place on time and land issues, like availability and zoning.
