Gerry Byrne says all parties have committed to cut fares on PEI’s Confederation Bridge by 60 percent but only a 50 percent reduction on Marine Atlantic.

Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says there’s a certain level of satisfaction that persistence does pay. He brought the issue of high fees on Marine Atlantic ferries to Parliament almost twenty five years ago and asked that changes be made. Byrne says now all parties are commititng to a fair reduction in rates. Bridges and ferries are critical to Atlantic Canadians — and our national economy. Byrne says there is still work to do to make it fair for all. He says they’ve committed to cut fares on PEI’s Confederation Bridge by 60 percent but only a 50 percent reduction on Marine Atlantic. Byrne says Marine Atlantic charges fees for vehicles, passengers and accommodations and vigilance must be taken to ensure parody and equity between provinces.
