Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons gets to go onboard the Norwegian Jade today as part of the cruise ship’s first visit to the city. Each time a ship makes an inaugural call to port there is a recognition ceremony and a plaque exchange. Parsons says he enjoys seeing what he calls “gigantic floating malls.” He says the word is spreading that Corner Brook is a cruise ship destination. Parsons says there’s always plenty on the go in the downtown area. There are vendors, bus tours, markets and more. The Norweigian Jade carries 2800 passengers and more than 1000 crew.
