A discussion continued for about 15 minutes and the Mayor asked several times to vote on the motion and move forward.
Monday night’s public meeting at Corner Brook city hall got off to a late start. The meeting dealt with reports from various committees such as protective services, and public works. Councillor Pamela Gill spoke about a July letter from the Western Regional Services board pertaining to shared fire services for the Boom Siding area. That’s when Councillor Charles Pender asked if Gill was in a conflict of interest. Mayor Jim Parsons didn’t think this qualifies as a conflict but says it’s up to council to decide. A motion was introduced on the matter. Gill and Deputy Mayor Linda Chaisson are on the board. A discussion continued for about 15 minutes and the Mayor asked several times to vote on the motion and move forward. That’s when the gavel came down and the Mayor asked for order. In the end, Council will wait to get more information to clarify whether or not Gill and Chaisson are in a conflict of interest and will discuss it further at another meeting.
