Bill 10, “An Act to Amend the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act, 2022,” has gone through the third reading in the House of Assembly and is just waiting for Royal Assent.

There’s a bill before government that, if passed, will provide a one-time increase to the retirement benefit paid to 3,100 people who have or had a WorkplaceNL claim, now or when they reach the age of 65. More than 700 would get a retroactive lump sum payment.  The change would apply retroactively to January 1, 2019. Mike Goosney is the Minister Responsible for WorkplaceNL, Government Services and Labour. He says while the amount depends on benefits, on average, that increase would be about $5,800 per worker.
