There’s a workshop coming to Marble Mountain at the end of next month all about Becoming an Outdoors Woman. It takes place at the Steady Brook ski resort September 29th to October 1st and applications are now open. Major sponsors include the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Wildlife Habitat Canada and Friends of Salmonier Nature Park. Women and Gender Equality Minister Pam Parsons says it’s an amazing program that has been happening since 1997. The program helps women aged 18 and over develop a variety of outdoor skills, with a focus on the conservation of local natural, historical and cultural resources. Parsons says 2,000 women have completed the program so far. Participants choose from a wide range of hands-on courses, including shotgun and rifle basics, archery, all-terrain vehicle safety, cooking in the outdoors, creating leather from animal hides, orienteering and bee keeping.
