Starting December 1st, there will be no provincial tax on gas or diesel and this will stay in effect until March 31st. Finance Minister Craig Pardy made the announcement this morning. He says their plan goes beyond these four months..
The Finance Minister was joined this morning by St. Georges-Humber MHA Hal Cormier. He says life costs more than it used to and families are feeling it every single week. Cormier says on the west coast driving is more than just a choice and for many families, a trip to Corner Brook is part of everyday.
Last week, government announced $54M as part of their affordability measures plan with a cut on electricity bills and doubled home heating rebate. Today’s announcement adds another $25M to that and Pardy says two more announcements are coming which will bring the total of all affordability measures to $100M.
Government will bring legislative amendments to the House of Assembly this week in order to bring these tax changes into effect.
