Mayor Jim Parsons says the request came from the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills.
Assisting in the immigration of a Ukrainian Firefighter, the City of Corner Brook will be working with the Provincial Department of Immigration and Multiculturalism for a Ukrainian trained firefighter to join the City's fire department with on the "job training” so he can acquire NFPA Level 1 and Level 2. The City is providing employment under the NL Jobs program where the Province will contribute 60% of the firefighter’s pay and the City will pay 40% for a 28-week term.
