What could have been a snowmobile operator going through the ice ended up being a sigh of relief near Prince Edward Park Friday evening. 28 members of the Bay of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue team deployed to the area just north of Corner Brook around 6 p.m with an ice rescue trailer and equipment, snowmobiles, and rescue boggan. Ice rescue technicians were tethered and moved out onto the sea ice following the snowmobile track in question. While the tracks initially headed towards open water near the Humber River, technicians found that thankfully the track soon turned back towards shore and safe ice. With the help of a member of the public near Irishtown it was determined that the track in question continued on without incident. Meanwhile, Street says there were also snowmobile tracks in the same area the next day. With 4 call outs in 4 weeks, 2026 is shaping up to be a busy year for BOISAR!
