Superintendent Paul Peddle couldn’t get into specifics on either case since they are still under investigation.
The RCMP went before the microphones this morning to answer questions from the media about two recent shootings in Grand Falls-Windsor. On Wednesday last week, a woman was airlifted to St. John’s with serious injuries and the suspect was found dead with a firearm next to his body. On Friday, a woman was shot dead and Ivan Loder has been charged with first degree murder.
Superintendent Paul Peddle couldn’t get into specifics on either case since they are still under investigation. However, he says in both cases, the victims and suspects knew each other but these were separate isolated incidents with no risk to the general public.
Peddle says the RCMP has a specialized victim section unit trained to handle intimate partner violence and all members get training for these types of calls for service.
Peddle says police understand the anxiety and fear that instances like this cause in small communities. He says anyone experiencing intimate partner violence should reach out for help by calling police as soon as possible. As well, anyone needing help can call the Lifewise Provincial Warm Line at 1-855-753-2560.
