More than half the people in this province are $200 from making ends meet.

There’s a big difference between health debt and unhealthy debt. On Bayfm’s “The Plain Truth” this week, Lauren Holwell from Credit Counseling Services was a guest. She says if you can pay off your debt in 5 years, you are in a good position, but any longer than that, you may need professional advice. Holwell says even if the debit is small and is causing you stress then it’s too  much, good debts like taking on a student loan to get an education for a better job or taking on a car loan to find a better job. Host Paula Sheppard says consumer debt was actually on a decline between 2010 and 2021, but since covid trends are on an incline. Holwell  says consumer bankruptcies went up last year and with the cost of living, salaries can’t keep up. She says more than half the people in this province are $200 from making ends meet.  The Plain Truth is aired each Wednesday at 5:30 pm on Bayfm.
