The first day of spring has come and gone, and with the extended winter weather, means motorists can keep their studded tires on a little longer.

• Young people in western NL now have better local access to services for mental health, primary care, housing, employment, and community support. Becket Western NL, a new Integrated Youth Services (IYS) hub, has officially opened.

  Jen Crowe is the Executive Director with Choices for Youth, based in St. John’s. She says for the past ten years, they’ve been working with partners like community organizations and NL Health Services to find a solution for people aged 12-29 that didn’t involve travel to the capital city.

• Bay St. George RCMP is looking for security camera footage after a break in at Lourdes Superette.

  Police were called to the business on Main Street Tuesday after a suspect forced entry, and then damaged and disabled security equipment.

• Tip of a possible impaired driver

  The RNC pulled him over around 2 p.m. on Tuesday after getting a tip of a possible impaired driver at a convenience store on First Avenue.

• Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP and Traffic Services West took three vehicles off the road and laid charges during a traffic initiative late last week.

  On April 9th just after 9 a.m., police tried to stop an off-road vehicle on the Main Road in Oregans. The operator was not wearing a helmet, refused to stop and fled from police at a high rate of speed. The next day, RCMP arrested a 19-year-old man in Millville.

• At this week’s public meeting, Corner Brook city hall approved another change order for the Deep Gulch Culvert Replacement Project at a cost of over $91K.

  This is the 26th change which brings the total of all the increases to more than $3M. Councllor Donna Luther asked if there is a limit to the number of change orders on projects.
