Trent MacLeod is the district manager with the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses. He says the year ahead will be challenging with interest rates and a national shortage of labour.

Small businesses everywhere have been struggling since Covid and while some have rebounded, they will never recoup the losses endured. The Canadian Federation of Independent BusinessesMacLeod says they expect the tourism sector to be strong this year and there is a backlog of people who wanted to travel to NL since before covid struck. He says they have been helping business owners for the past 50 years and now, they have a new brand, called HR Now. MacLeod says business owners are passionate and experts in their fields, but sometimes they struggle with Human Resources and we do that for them. The CFIB has 130 members in Corner Brook, 1700 across NL and close to 100,000 in Canada.
