Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says this committee will work with police on the concerns of the Black community in NL.
The RCMP is looking for people to join their Black Engagement Steering Committee (RBESCo). Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says this committee will work with police on the concerns of the Black community in NL. Assistant Commissioner Pat Cahill is seeking community-based volunteers to join the committee. The collective work on the committee is guided by the goals of promoting fairness, increasing understanding, reducing barriers, and driving meaningful change.
The committee meets virtually two to three times per year, and candidates from metro areas and rural communities are encouraged to apply. O’Donaghey says they’re also looking to add youth members between the ages of 18-30. Members of the RBESCo will be asked to share their lived experience as a member of the Black community, help foster cultural exchange between the Black community and the RCMP and serve as a voice on a committee focused on removing barriers and improving engagement between the Black community and the RCMP.
Anyone interested has until April 15th to email the RCMP. (vanessa.hendry@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. )
