RCMP charged two people with impaired driving this past weekend on the Northern Peninsula. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says the first one was pulled over at around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday on Fisher Street in Port au Choix. The driver, a 54-year-old woman, showed signs of impairment, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. She was transported to the detachment in Port Saunders where she provided additional breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. Police seized and impounded her vehicle and her driver’s licence was suspended. She is expected to appear in provincial court in June 2026 in relation to the impaired operation charges.
O’Donaghey says the next night around 7:40 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Route 430 near Bellburns. That driver showed signs of impairment, and a roadside breath test was administered. The results were over the provincial limit, but under the criminal threshold for impaired operation. The 40-year-old man’s driver’s license was suspended roadside and his vehicle was impounded. The provincial limit for alcohol in Newfoundland and Labrador is 0.05% (50 mg%) blood-alcohol concentration (BAC).
