Port Saunders RCMP arrested the driver of a commercial tractor trailer near the community of Pond Cove after getting a report of a possible impaired driver on Route 430. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says just after 9 p.m. on June 20th, police located the unit partially off the roadway. There were open alcohol containers just outside the vehicle and the driver failed a roadside breath test.

The 57-year-old Montreal man was arrested and his commercial vehicle was seized and impounded. O’Donaghey says cCommercial vehicle operators carry a heightened responsibility every time they get behind the wheel. Impairment by alcohol or drugs can significantly reduce judgement, reaction time and decision-making ability, putting the driver and everyone sharing the road at serious risk. Given the size and weight of commercial vehicles, the consequences of impaired driving can be catastrophic. The Quebec man is due to appear in court on September 15th.
