RNC Cst James Cadigan says there’s a new class of recruits starting soon.
The RNC is looking back at a year of growth and looking ahead to much of the same in the new year. Cst James Cadigan says there’s a new class of recruits starting soon. He says this past year has seen an increase in weapons related offences, specifically possession. Cadigan says over the past year and a half a specialized unit has been able to detect these weapons before they are used in the commission of an offense. He says illegal firearms are obtained illegally. Cadigan says the prominent cases of firearms being brought to be used in the community are targeted events. Cadigan says charges like unauthorized use of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, are connected with firearms seizures that are used in criminal events like break and enters, robberies and so on.
Meanwhile, Cpl Jolene Garland says the RCMP is continuing recruitment efforts with success. She says they feel positive heading into 2025 that some of the resourcing issues from this year will continue to improve.
