Lynn Howse says it’s $164 per tonne or about 7 cents per pound, clean shingles are $60 per tonne and a complete house tear down is $60 per tonne with a permit.
It’s home renovation time and Western Regional Waste management has been getting questions about the cost of unwanted materials at the landfill. On Bayfm Trash Talk, Outreach Coordinator Lynn Howse explained the rates, known as “tipping fees.” She says it’s $164 per tonne or about 7 cents per pound. Clean shingles are $60 per tonne and a complete house tear down is $60 per tonne with a permit.
Howse says those doing a house tear down or dropping off shingles have to contact their admin office first to get that reduced rate. Metals, E-waste and household hazardous waste are all free to drop off at Wildcove.
Meanwhile, with thousands of people expected at the NL Summer Games, Howse says they’ve been working on greening up the games in a sustainable way, with posters at different establishments so out of towners will know what goes where. She says posters at the Games also include QR codes so people can scan and download the wrwmnl app.
