Opposition member Joedy Wall says it’s time to stop the excuses and get to work on making our province's roadways safer.

It’s been 5 years since legislation has been passed and no tickets have been issued with respect to speed cameras. Opposition member Joedy Wall says it’s time to stop the excuses and get to work on making our province's roadways safer. A recent 3-month pilot project found that 94,000 vehicles were travelling 11 km/hr or more over the speed limit in Paradise and Mount Pearl at two different locations.  However, during the pilot, simple notices were issued by the municipality without financial penalty or demerit points. Wall says the Minister has been reviewing, studying, and analyzing for years and has failed to take meaningful actions. He says the pilot has confirmed the scope of the problem, yet the Minister continues to make excuses. Wall noted that other provinces have had speed cameras for decades and despite having passed legislation in November 2019, the provincial Liberals have failed to make our roads safer.
