BOISAR Search Manager Stephen Decker says about 15 members set up a staging area along the Trans Canada Highway, just west of Corner Brook.
One person was taken to hospital early Saturday morning after a snowmobile accident on Logger School Road. The RNC and NL Health Services contacted the Bay of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue at around 12 a.m. Search Manager Stephen Decker says about 15 members set up a staging area along the Trans Canada Highway, just west of Corner Brook. The accident happened in an area about 16 kms in on Logger School Road so they needed assistance for first aid on scene and to extract the subject.
Paramedics and police were in the area when they arrived, and Decker says 3 snowmobiles and 6 members located the accident scene quickly. They provided first aid to the patient, helped keep them warm, provided treatment for shock, then packaged the patient in a vacuum mattress for extraction by their rescue boggan to be transported to the waiting ambulance.
Decker says the rescue boggan is proving to be a valuable piece of equipment and has been used several times since the Western Sno Riders raised the money for it in 2023. Once the patient was on the way to the hospital, members stood down, and equipment was returned and reset by 4:30 a.m.
