The majority of food insecure people won’t go to a foodbank.
FoodFirstNL says the latest stats show one in five households in this province live with food insecurity issues. CEO Josh Smee says numbers are part of their Rethinking Food Charity Final Report, which was recently released. He says the majority of food insecure people won’t go to a foodbank. Smee says there’s a lot of shame associated with asking for help, like standing in a line outside at a foobank or being asked what you make or your mcp number. The report includes 23 recommendations for the food charity sector, government, and systems-level organizations. It can be found at www.foodfirstnl.ca.
