Corner Brook's Sustainability Development Coordinator Kirstin Mercer says this type of blight can actually stain your vehicle if the leaves aren’t cleaned off quickly.

It’s easy to notice maple leaves with black or darkened spots on them, either on the ground or still clinging to trees in the Corner Brook area. The city’s Sustainability Development Coordinator Kirstin Mercer says this type of blight can actually stain your vehicle if the leaves aren’t cleaned off quickly. Meanwhile, residents have a couple of opportunities now to get rid of those unwanted leaves. This is day 3 of the regular garbage pickup schedule, and for the rest of this week, leaves in clear bags will be picked up curbside. There is no limit but Mercer says they have to be in clear bags. Residents also have until November 14th to drop leaves off at 3rd pond, just off the Lewin Parkway between the hours of 8:30 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mercer says leaves have to be debagged and thrown in a pile, bags go in a dumpster, and new this year, there is a security camera on site. She says mulching is easier timewise, but more importantly, provides nitrogen which is essential for lawn growth. Meanwhile, tree cuttings over 10 cm in diameter, clumps of soil and rocks, and stumps are not accepted.
