Hogan says this first phase of expansion will be followed by additional phases throughout this year with further information to be shared publicly as the process continues.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is expanding in western Newfoundland. Last August, the RNC held a news conference in Pasadena. Justice Minister John Hogan announced that the RNC would soon be policing in the community, as well as the communities in the Bay of Islands, the Town of Massey Drive, and Humber Valley. In total, nearly 33,000 residents in the region will be served by the RNC. On Tuesday, Hogan announced that effective February 1st the RNC will be the new police of jurisdiction for the communities of Massey Drive and Mount Moriah. He says communities have highlighted their needs and an analysis showed the west coast would have enhanced policing by doing the expansion. Hogan says this first phase of expansion will be followed by additional phases throughout this year with further information to be shared publicly as the process continues. He says the RNC has served Corner Brook for more than 30 years. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will continue to manage ongoing files that have been previously reported through them in this area. There is no change to 9-1-1 services. As always, dial 9-1-1 in case of emergency.
